Mobile Video Endoscopy

Mobile Video Endoscopy

Video endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that uses a small camera on the end of a long flexible tube allowing veterinarians to evaluate the interior of the respiratory and the gastrointestinal tract.  The image from the camera is projected in real-time onto a monitor for visualization. Our high definition 3.5 meter video endoscope is the highest quality endoscope available today and portable, allowing us to complete these diagnostic examinations on your horse in the comfort of his or her own barn!

Gastroscopy describes a procedure in which we use our video endoscope to evaluate the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (first section of the small intestine) of our patients.  Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) is the most common disease of the equine stomach and has been reported to be present in up to 75% of sport horses and 50% of pleasure horses.  Clinical signs of EGUS can be vague and non-specific, making gastroscopy the only way to come to a definitive diagnosis.

Using our video endoscope in the airway we can evaluate the nasal passages, ethmoid turbinates, guttural pouches, pharynx, larynx, trachea and main stem bronchi of the respiratory tract.  With airway endoscopy we can diagnose diseases such as recurrent laryngeal neuropathy, exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage, guttural pouch mycosis, recurrent airway obstruction, ethmoid hematomas, and many more.
