Health Certificates

Also known as Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), a Health Certificate showing that your horse was examined by a licensed veterinarian prior to travel is required for interstate, and many times intrastate, travel to many horse shows, exhibitions and competitions.  Health certificate exams generally take less than 30 minutes and a certificate is obtained the same day. Having vaccination records and a copy of a current Coggins Test on each horse is helpful as this information can be added to the Health Certificate.

Coggins Test

Also known as Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), a Health Certificate showing that your horse was examined by a licensed veterinarian prior to travel is required for interstate, and many times intrastate, travel.  Health certificate exams generally take less than 30 minutes and a certificate is obtained the same day. Having vaccination records and a copy of a current Coggins Test on each horse is helpful as this information can be added to the Health Certificate.

The Coggins test is a blood test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA). EIA is a potentially fatal disease in horses resulting from transmission of a virus by blood-sucking insects. Proof of a negative Coggins test within the past year (sometimes more frequently) is required for international, interstate, and many times intrastate, travel.  A brief physical exam is performed before blood is drawn from your horse and sent to a Certified laboratory to perform the Coggins test. The Coggins test looks for the presence of antibodies to the EIA virus in your horse's blood, indicating infection.

Please allow one week for results of the exam to be reported back to you. In some cases, results can be obtained faster.
